Initial Situation &
Problem Statement
As part of the 2025 Chamber of Commerce elections, Canon Austria was commissioned by four Chambers of Commerce to digitize the ballots and count them using software. The project was highly sensitive both politically and in terms of media attention: On election day, approximately 30,000 ballots per location had to be digitally captured without errors and on time so that the results could be published live on radio and television in a timely manner. The biggest challenges were the extreme time pressure, the requirement for absolute reliability, and the exceptionally high number of software licenses needed for a single day due to the required computing power.
The Solution
To procure the necessary licenses for this project – which went beyond day-to-day operations – as cost-effectively as possible and to minimize licensing risks, Canon turned to LYYNX for specialized licensing consulting. Working closely with Canon, LYYNX developed several robust licensing strategies with transparent cost models within a short period of time. Despite the tight deadline, these strategies were finalized through several rounds of consultation and served as the basis for the actual procurement. The solution also included detailed documentation to ensure transparency in licensing costs and compliance.
- Calculated breakdown of several licensing cost models
- Cost-optimized license usage
- Knowledge transfer regarding used software licenses
The Result
Thanks to expert Microsoft licensing advice and the development of alternative licensing models, we were able to significantly reduce the cost of the required licenses. The tailored licensing strategy enabled a smooth implementation on Election Day.
Canon successfully completed the project: The digital vote count went off without a hitch, and all results were available in time for the live broadcast. Thanks to LYYNX’s support, more than 50% of the software licensing costs that had previously been anticipated were saved.
- In-depth & personalized consulting within a short timeframe
- “Thanks to LYYNX’s expertise, we were made aware of the possibility of using pre-owned software. We had not been sufficiently familiar with this option before,” said Plamberger

“Our collaboration with LYYNX went exactly as we had hoped – efficiently, with a focus on solutions, and at just the right time. Without their last-minute licensing advice, we would have faced a drastic increase in software licensing costs, which, in the worst-case scenario, could have jeopardized the project.”
Andreas Plamberger, Head of Information Management Solutions, Canon Austria
