The Client

The ALPLA Group is a leading global manufacturer of plastic packaging solutions headquartered in Hard, Vorarlberg, Austria. The company employs approximately 24,350 people at 200 production sites in 46 countries. ALPLA covers the entire value chain of plastic packaging manufacturing—from development and production of bottles, closures, injection-molded parts, and preforms to customized packaging systems for industries such as beverages, food, cosmetics, household and personal care, lubricants, and pharmaceuticals.
The family-owned company has been led by CEO Philipp Lehner, representing the third generation of leadership, since 2021. In 2024, ALPLA generated revenue of 4.9 billion euros.

Initial Situation &
Problem Statement

Before implementing SAM | Sense, ALPLA used an outdated SAM tool that was no longer supported. It was complex to use, lacked specific reports, and the data quality was poor. Manually reconciling data from various sources required a significant amount of work. As a new Microsoft contract loomed in 2022, the time pressure became too great to manually prepare the license inventory. ALPLA decided on a professional solution and turned to LYYNX LMS.

The Solution

To address these challenges, ALPLA implemented SAM | Sense from LYYNX. Following an evaluation, the company selected LYYNX’s managed SAM service, which is based on Snow License Manager. This service digitally maps all operational license management processes. With LMS, ALPLA can centrally manage licenses and monitor both cloud and on-premise services. Through reports and LYYNX’s service, usage can be analyzed and optimized—for example, when employees are not using licenses. Quarterly evaluations provide a comprehensive license inventory as well as recommendations for cost-optimized license usage and risk minimization.

  • Centralized overview of used and purchased software licenses (cloud & on-premise)
  • Periodic license inventory
  • Ongoing identification, presentation, and assessment of potential audit risks
  • Cost-optimized license usage

The Result

By implementing LYYNX LMS, ALPLA was able to significantly improve data quality and substantially reduce the workload. A reliable database was available after just a few months. The solution now enables well-informed decisions, efficient license monitoring, and a high level of audit and compliance assurance.

The collaboration with LYYNX is highly practical, professional, and based on partnership. Thanks to continuous support, LYYNX’s expertise can be optimally tailored to ALPLA’s needs.

  • Improved data quality as a driver of purchasing decisions
  • Audit assurance and compliance through a valid data foundation
  • Challenges such as double licensing (e.g., E3/E5) or limitations in cost tracking are optimally addressed through tailored LYYNX support
  • Collaboration with LYYNX as a continuous source of added value for strategic license management
  • Significant time savings through automation and structured support
