Initial Situation &
Problem Statement
A key challenge emerged in day-to-day operations: The complexity of Microsoft’s licensing models made it difficult to ensure consistent and secure classification – especially across different roles. In particular, employees with a strong technical focus on the cloud (e.g., Azure, pay-as-you-go) had little exposure to the Microsoft 365 licensing landscape. Concepts such as user, device, or client licensing—and the distinctions between them – were often difficult to grasp. At the same time, there was uncertainty regarding traditional on-premises scenarios, such as those involving Windows Server licensing, CALs, Software Assurance, or security updates. This made it challenging to follow technical and licensing-related discussions with colleagues and customers in a well-informed manner.
The goal was to establish a common understanding, structure knowledge, and convey licensing logic in a practical way – regardless of the participants’ level of experience.
The Solution
LYYNX conducted a two-day Microsoft Licensing Professional (MLP) training session on-site at CANCOM Austria. The focus was on conveying Microsoft licensing knowledge in a clear and practical way—from basic principles to the latest changes and legal frameworks. The training was supplemented by real-world customer scenarios from CANCOM’s day-to-day operations, as well as targeted references to Microsoft Learning Docs. This provided participants not only with knowledge but also with the tools to independently and efficiently look up relevant information in the future.
- Two-day MLP training on-site at CANCOM Austria
- Coverage of key Microsoft licensing models (User, Device, Client, CALs)
- Practical examples from real-world customer situations
- Integration of Microsoft Learning Docs as a sustainable knowledge source
- Opportunity to address pre-submitted questions and specific practical cases
- Accommodation of varying levels of experience (from beginners to experts)
The Result
After the training, participants were able to better contextualize and actively contribute to licensing discussions. Topics such as Windows Server, CALs, and hybrid scenarios—such as the Azure Hybrid Benefit—were understood more clearly.
Discussions with colleagues and customers became noticeably more confident and efficient, as participants were familiar not only with individual terms but also with how they relate to one another. In addition, a sustainable foundation was established for independent knowledge development, including through personal collections of links to relevant Microsoft documentation.
The training proved consistently valuable for all experience levels and provided even experienced professionals with new insights—particularly regarding current changes and the intricacies of licensing law.
- Significantly improved understanding of Microsoft licensing logic
- Sustainable knowledge building through structured resources
- Relevant added value for all roles and experience levels
- Greater confidence in client meetings and internal coordination
- High acceptance due to practical and understandable instruction
- Clarity regarding on-premises and hybrid scenarios

“I would definitely recommend this training and the instructor. The instructor is extremely approachable, the training is practical and easy to understand—even for beginners. You can immediately tell the instructor has many years of experience, and the examples are very easy to follow.”
