Initial Situation &
Problem Statement
Software licenses were managed in a decentralized and manual manner, with employees recording license data in Excel spreadsheets. This led to frequent problems and high error rates, as it was difficult to maintain an overview of all licenses and their actual usage.
In particular, the high level of change in the acquisition and divestiture of business entities repeatedly led to problematic situations. This resulted in license costs that were difficult to estimate and audit risks. The license management processes were neither standardized nor digitized.
The Solution
To address these issues, Mondi decided to implement a professional software license management system. After thorough research, the company selected SAM | Sense from LYYNX. SAM | Sense is a managed service based on Snow License Manager that covers all aspects of operational license management.
With SAM | Sense, Mondi can centrally manage all licenses and access an up-to-date overview of software assets, cloud services, and their usage at any time.
Licenses are automatically assigned to employees, ensuring cost-efficient usage. Based on quarterly analyses, LYYNX generates a current license inventory and provides a report on cost-optimized usage as well as potential license risks.
- Periodic license inventory
- Overview of licenses in use and purchased, whether on-premises or in the cloud
- Cost-optimized license usage
- Ongoing identification, presentation, and assessment of potential risks
The Result
By implementing LYYNX LMS, Mondi was able to consolidate group-wide license management, significantly improve license compliance, and reduce license costs. Manual license management is now a thing of the past, and the company benefits from a centrally managed and transparent system.
In addition, employees benefit from the simplified process and can focus on their core tasks. Finance and IT management across all entities and locations are kept informed of potential risks and costs at all times.

- LYYNX’s LMS ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (audit assurance)
- A transparent, up-to-date license inventory forms the basis for planning cost-optimized license requirements and, subsequently, for procuring licenses and cloud subscriptions
- Optimization of operational organization through standardized and digitized processes

“SAM | Sense from LYYNX has helped us sustainably reduce our software costs and ensure that all employees are using the licenses necessary for their work. We are completely satisfied with LYYNX’s performance and recommend that every company have its license management processes analyzed by LYYNX and contact LYYNX before implementing a license management system.”
